Role summary

Generate is building the connective layer between design, engineering, and manufacturing for low-carbon buildings. Our platform is already in use on real mass timber projects across the United States.

We are hiring a Project Designer to take direct ownership of project execution inside Generate. This is a hands-on delivery role for someone who is already strong, moves fast, and wants to become exceptional.

At Generate, you will not just model buildings — you will help shape how buildings are delivered. Our platform integrates structural logic, cost, and manufacturing intelligence directly into the design process. You will see your decisions ripple across design, engineering, pricing, and fabrication. You will be trusted with real responsibility early.

But you will be supported by experienced designers, engineers, and product leaders as you grow.

This role is for builders who want real accountability early and are willing to earn trust through execution.

What you’ll own

You will be responsible for executing projects to a high bar, with increasing scope and autonomy over time.

Specifically, you will:

  • Own the day-to-day execution of mass timber design work within the Generate platform.

  • Develop coordinated 3D models and design packages suitable for pricing, coordination, and manufacturing.

  • Work through Concept through Construction Documentation phases, with guidance where needed.

  • Review and interpret architectural and structural documentation, identifying issues and gaps early.

  • Coordinate directly with internal team members and external partners on your assigned projects.

  • Take responsibility for the quality of your outputs before they are reviewed by senior team members.

If something is unclear, you are expected to push until it becomes clear.

How we measure success (months 6–12)

You will be successful if:

  • You independently execute assigned projects with minimal task-level oversight.

  • Your work is consistently clean, correct, and well-documented.

  • You demonstrate growing judgment in design decisions and tradeoffs.

  • Feedback on your work trends from “needs refinement” to “ready to ship.”

  • You earn trust to take on larger scopes and more complex projects.

Required capabilities

Technical

  • Strong 3D modeling skills and strong Revit proficiency.

  • Experience working through Concept through CD phases on real projects.

  • Ability to read, understand, and work from construction documents.

  • Curiosity and motivation to deeply understand structural engineering concepts.

  • Ability to ramp quickly into mass timber systems with guidance.

Execution & ownership

  • Ability to take a task, figure it out, and push it to completion.

  • Comfort working in a fast-moving environment with evolving requirements.

  • Clear written and verbal communication, especially around technical work.

  • Basic project management instincts: tracking tasks, timelines, and dependencies.

  • Relentless attention to detail. You triple-check your work before others do.

Who will thrive here

You will thrive in this role if you:

  • Want real responsibility and are willing to grow into it.

  • Prefer solving problems over waiting for direction.

  • Take pride in producing high-quality work.

  • Learn quickly from feedback and apply it immediately.

  • Are motivated by impact, not just output.

Who will not thrive here

This role is not a fit if you:

  • Need step-by-step instructions to move forward.

  • Avoid accountability for quality or deadlines.

  • Are uncomfortable working with incomplete information, even with support from team.

  • Prefer narrowly defined tasks with no end-to-end ownership.

  • Struggle to manage multiple responsibilities independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Exposure to mass timber design or construction.

  • Dynamo experience.

  • Rhino and Grasshopper proficiency.

  • Architectural or engineering licensure.

Why this role is hard — and worth it

This role demands focus, rigor, and follow-through. You will work on real projects with real consequences and high expectations.

In return, you will gain:

  • Hands-on experience delivering complex buildings.

  • Direct mentorship from experienced world-class designers and engineers.

  • Accelerated growth into a senior technical role.

  • A front-row seat in shaping how a new class of design-to-manufacturing tools is built.

If you want an opportunity to accelerate your career growth, this role offers it in full.
